Currently being built Competece Centre STOS at the Gdańsk University of Technology has just topped out, which means that an important construction stage has been completed – the highest structural point of the building has been completed. Now it is possible to intensify works related to elements in the middle of the investment. The hi-tech IT center of the Gdańsk Tech is to be ready in the middle of next year, and the cost of implementation – after adding the costs of purchasing the “supercomputer” and building equipment – is over PLN 200 million.
– The new space is to be the head office of the Center of Informatics of the Tri-City Academic Computer Network and the IT showpiece of Pomerania – says prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology. – Thanks to CK STOS, we will become an even more recognizable academic center in Poland and Europe. The capabilities of the Center will allow our scientists to carry out ambitious research projects, and students will receive new teaching opportunities and access to the latest technologies.
– CK STOS is to be ready by the end of June 2022. We carry out the works according to the schedule, and it should be emphasized that the facility is characterized by a significant degree of complexity – says Małgorzata Winiarek Gajewska, president of the NDI Group, the general contractor of the works. – The challenge is both the geometry of the building and the richness of installations, which requires good planning and coordination, as well as high discipline in the organization of work of our subcontractors and suppliers. However, we are satisfied with the progress of the work – she adds.
The works are in full swing, the construction works have already been completed. In part of building B, the façade of the building and, in large part, the steel structures and partition walls, are practically ready. In addition, plasters and door joinery are made. Work on all installations is in progress. Not much less is also happening in building A, where the roofing and installation of external facades has started. A steel substructure, partition walls and installations are built there.
“Supercomputer” means a huge requirement
– At the “0” level, that is in the heart of the facility, where the server rooms are located, works on the installation of ice cold technology, power supply with busbars, teletechnical installations are well advanced – lists Michał Sadowski, project director from NDI. – In the server room, the fastest possible assembly and completion of all installations, i.e. the laying of pipelines, busbars, power cables, water mist technology. We want to quickly close these rooms and equip them with the necessary devices, such as switchboards, control cabinets, pumps, valves. We want to be able to check the installation and make any attempts as soon as possible – he adds.
As winter is approaching, a district heating network and a junction is being built. An indoor installation is being prepared that will distribute the heat in the facility. Building B is already closed with a roof and external facades. Works are still underway in building A to protect it against rainfall.
